Pino is noted for his ability to capture the movements and expressions of his subjects. His talents have brought him world-wide acclaim. Pino’s canvases elicit feelings of warmth, nostalgia, love and family.
Pino often leaves a blank white spot on his canvases. (See lower left hand side). He was quoted as saying “I use it to emphasize the center of the painting, from the unfinished to the finished. Undefined areas emphasize the focus. That’s what abstract artists in the ’50s and ’60s did. I don’t want to be so literal, to finish everything. It’s graphic design; it’s complementary.” (2006)
Another interesting fact about Pino is he would often put himself into his paintings. You can see him in this painting seated behind the Spanish dancer at the table.
