Part of our range of home furnishings made from authentic moquette fabric from the golden days of steam, this 40cm cushion features the design 'Provincial Blue' which could be found in rail rolling stock the length of the country in the last century and still features in many preserved coaches found in traffic at heritage steam railways to this day.

Featuring a plush duck feather inner and a hidden zip, this item stands out as something special in a home setting.  This item is made from transport grade material and is therefore extremely hard-wearing and resistant to spills and stains.  By its nature, moquette is a heavy fabric with a wonderfully tactile texture that has to be felt to be believed.

About the Design
During the British Rail era there was a move away from the traditional stitched moquette method of upholstering, to one involving fitted covers (which could be removed for cleaning) made with repp-type fabrics. These did not prove to be as successful as had been hoped, and there was a gradual drift back towards traditional techniques and materials.

Provincial Blue (so-called because it was introduced by the “Provincial” sector, later to be known as “Regional Railways”) was one of the first moquettes to be used after the “washable cover” episode, and it went on to see widespread use with other sectors.
