Description

This is a gorgeous 1850s $1 remainder from this Banking House of Baldwin & Dodge, Council Bluff, IA Oakes 26-1.
The Banking and land agency was formed by John T. Baldwin and G.M. Dodge in January 1956. Their brothers ended up assuming and running the business within a few years. These notes circulated when small bills and silver had all but disappeared from the area in the late 1850s. The situation was relieved when the State Bank of Iowa came into existence in 1859. According to oakes, the notes were printed by Ed. Mendel, Chicago. This extremely attractive remainder has a reddish brown netting design and several attractive vignettes including one of a train.
