The Eagle and Spirituality

The eagle symbolizes new beginnings, resilience, rebirth, intelligence, higher thinking and is a messenger.

The Celts believed the eagle can assist in remaining focussed, increase intelligence and understanding. To them it was a symbol of higher thinking and they used the symbol of the eagle to train their people in sharpening their mental skills and rising to challenges.

Native Americans see the eagle as a sacred spirit animal/totem.  They believe because the eagle can soar higher into the sky than any other bird this meant the eagle was the closest creature to their creator gods. The eagle is believed to be a powerful messenger, again due to it's ability to soar high into the sky. The lesson from the eagle is to ponder, explore and learn from all parts of our life big and small. We must look for opportunities, keep moving forward and welcome kind, open hearted genuine people into our lives.

"The Athame" is one of the most important ritual tools in Wicca. Having many purposes it is not meant for actual physical cutting. It's primary purpose is to channel and direct psychic energy. it is used to invoke the elemental guardians of the 4 directions or "Quarters". This is achieved by using the athame to draw "invoke" pentagrams at each corner.

Generally Athames are purified before using for magick or rituals. One common way is by anointing the blade with items representing the 4 elements ( earth, air, fire and water) eg candle, air, water, salt and even oil infused with magical herbs. There are other options available. I would suggest do some research and follow your intention as to the best way to achieve this.
