SAMUEL NEELE

Samuel John Neele (July 29th 1758 - May 13th 1824) a British map engraver who worked extensively in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. Having apprenticed as a printer and engraver in 1781 - 82, Neele established himself independently at 352 The Strand, London. Armed with his business acumen and technical, Neele became a prolific engraver with hundreds of maps to his credit. His vast corpus endeered him to the cream of English publishers. Around 1818 his sons, Josiah and James Neele, both engravers, took over the business achieving similar levels of notability as their father.
