1638 World History Theatrum Historicum Chronology Marburg RARE Christoph
Helwig
Christoph Helwig was an early 17th-century German
chronologist known for his landmark work ‘Theatrum Historicum’. This
work, first published in 1609, is an entire chronology of the history of the
world beginning with Creation and the lineage of Adam. Short biographical notes
and included throughout each ‘chart-like’ page. Helwig covers church history,
use of astrology in pagan and religious circles, Greek, Roman, and Jewish
histories, rise and fall of Turkish and Ottoman powers, importance of the
Papacy, all with an extensive index through the mid-1600s. Thousands of
names are included in this work most of which are featured in the
year-by-year chart. An impressive and highly desirable work!
This 1638 edition includes notes and revisions by
Johan Schupp.
