Up for sale is a magnificent, scarce antique vest pocket folding souvenir map titled "Bird's Eye View of Boston Harbor and South Shore to Provincetown (Showing Steamboat Routes)."
Published circa 1905 by the historic Union News Company at South Station in Boston, Massachusetts, this colorful panoramic lithograph is an exceptional survivor from the golden age of American coastal steamship travel.
The booklet features its original tan paper covers with an advertisement on the reverse for "225 Glimpses of Boston." The inside front cover includes a complete printed numerical Index identifying 35 key historic landmarks, lighthouses, coastal forts, and resort towns keyed directly to locations on the map.
The centerpiece is an exceptionally bright, multi-fold color lithograph panoramic map detailing the entire Massachusetts coastline from downtown Boston's Rowes Wharf across the harbor islands all the way to Cape Cod Bay and Provincetown. It beautifully depicts architectural renderings of the city waterfront, the State House dome, and historic coastal excursion shipping lines to Hingham, Plymouth, and Nantasket Beach (including the Paragon Park amusement complex which opened in 1905).
Condition: The map is exceptionally clean and crisp, remaining fully and securely attached to the original paper binding structure. The lithograph coloring remains incredibly bright and vivid with bold text. Unlike most folding paper maps of this era, this example shows pristine preservation with no holes, tears, or splits along the delicate intersecting fold lines. The exterior paper cover shows minor edge wear, natural light aging, and toning consistent with an authentic, century-old historical paper collectible.
A premium investment-grade addition for collectors of Bostoniana, antique American cartography, and maritime transit history. Please examine the high-resolution photos to review the complete contents and exceptional condition.
