A highly collectible, true 1915 first edition hardback copy of "The Amateur Army" by the famous Irish soldier-poet and "Navvy" author, Patrick MacGill.
Published by Herbert Jenkins Limited, London, and printed by Wyman & Sons Ltd.

This historic World War I volume provides a raw, journalistic and deeply human account of MacGill's enlistment and early training with the 2nd London Irish Battalion (18th London Irish Rifles) before heading out to the Western Front.
The book includes the original black-and-white illustrated frontispiece portrait of "Rifleman Patrick MacGill" in full uniform holding his rifle.

An intriguing feature of this particular copy is a charming, hand-pencilled technical sketch drawn onto the blank front endpapers, detailing furniture/shelving layout measurements (marked 40", 18", and 30").

Condition:
Acceptable / Fair vintage condition for its age.
The original yellow cloth binding shows substantial age-toning, surface marking and shelf-wear.
The top spine corner shows a clear tear/chipping to the cloth covering, but the overall structure remains intact.
Inside, there is age-related foxing and tanning to the pages, but the text blocks are clean, legible and tight.

Please inspect all photos carefully to evaluate the condition before purchasing.
