A stranger is caught cheating in a five-card stud game at a saloon in Rincon, Colorado, in 1880. Van Morgan tries unsuccessfully to save the gambler’s life as the other five players lynch him. Meanwhile, the gold rush has drawn a group of outsiders to Rincon, including gun-toting preacher Jonathan Rudd and Lily Langford, who travels with a collection of beautiful women known as her “barbers.” When two townspeople are murdered, Van recalls that both victims played in the fatal card game. As the killer stalks the remaining players, tension mounts—until two of the principals face off in a showdown that brings the five-card stud murders to a close.
