The 1878-CC Morgan Silver Dollar was struck at the Carson City Mint in Nevada during the first year of the Morgan Dollar series. The distinctive “CC” mint mark is especially popular with collectors of historic Western United States coinage.
The obverse features Liberty wearing a cap decorated with cotton and wheat, surrounded by stars and the inscription “E PLURIBUS UNUM.” The reverse displays a heraldic eagle holding arrows and an olive branch, along with the inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “ONE DOLLAR.”
Designed by George T. Morgan, this classic silver dollar had an original mintage of 2,212,000 coins. Its first-year status and Carson City origin make it a notable issue within the Morgan Dollar series.
