Eytan of Eytan's Designs has almost fifty years' experience designing, selling, buying, repairing, refashioning & appraising jewelry.  Since January, 2019 we've added on-line sales to our résumé, selling Eytan's inventory of fine pre-owned jewelry to Planet Earth via eBay.  Meanwhile, back at the bricks & mortar shop, Eytan is semi-retired, focusing more on custom designs and doing whatever the h*ll he wants!  Please check back as we're listing new items every week in a range of styles and eras -- all priced with an emphasis on fairness and realism!

This cute owl-on-a-plate was probably originally intended as charm for one of those highly impractical charm bracelets gals used to lug around.  Eytan made it into a pendant and strung it on a removable 18" necklace of 3mm sapphire beads with some pyrite mixed in to match the gold of the pendant.

The owl's tum-tum is an oval cabochon of tigers eye (chatoyant quartz), with a nice, pronounced cats eye effect.  The stone probably weighs around 1.5 carats.

The owl's eyes look like inky, low quality sapphires, but they don't test as such with our limited equipment, though they do test as something (i.e., they're not plastic or glass).  Frankly, they're too small for us to get excited over.  They look like sapphires and get the job done.

The disc is about 1.0" in diameter (25mm) and 1.3" long, including the simple round wire bale, the inside dimensions of which are approximately 4mm x 3.5mm.

The necklace is just over 18" long.  It's finished with a recycled pearl clasp.  The clasp is stamped "14KT."  All other components -- the beads, stringing and end fittings -- are new.

The back of the pendant is stamped "14K," and it passes a 14K acid test.  However, acid testing is not very precise, and it's possible the gold is not quite 58.3% pure (i.e., 14K).  Up until the early 1980's, American jewelers and manufacturers could use the "14K" purity stamp as long as the gold purity was at least 13.5K.    This wiggle room was eliminated with federal legislation that went into effect in 1981.  We think this pendant is American and was made in the 1960's or 1970's, so it's a prime candidate for loosy-goosy purity stamping;  therefore, we're only guaranteeing gold purity of at least 13.5K.

The pendant weighs 5.3 grams.  The necklace weighs 9.9 grams.  The combined weight is therefore 15.2 grams.

If you would like to buy the pendant without the necklace, just let us know and we'll give you an adjusted price, but the adjustment won't be very much.  The necklace didn't cost us a lot to make and the only precious metal on it is the clasp; we just like it as a nice delivery system for the pendant.

Shipping is included in the price.
