"The Iron Gate of Jack & Charlie's '21'" is a 220-page commemorative hardcover book published in 1950 by the Jack Kriendler Memorial Foundation to mark the 25th anniversary of the institution. Proceeds from the book benefited the New York Heart Association. The volume features essays, articles, and illustrations by a prominent circle of mid-20th-century figures, including John Steinbeck, William Saroyan, John O'Hara, Damon Runyon, Robert Benchley, Walt Disney, James Montgomery Flagg, and Rube Goldberg. Jack & Charlie's "21" began as a Prohibition-era speakeasy before operating as a celebrated traditional American restaurant for 90 years until its closure in 2020. The landmark entrance features its famous wrought-iron gate and a exterior line of jockey statues. (Abebooks)
