This salt cellar stands 2 5/8" tall and measures 3 3/16" in diameter. Made of mercury glass, it is silver on the outside with a gold wash on the interior of the bowl. There are etched or engraved leaves and vines all around the outside, and the cork on the underside of the base is still intact. This salt dish is shown on page #93 of the book, "The Open Salt Compendium," and is described as being circa 1850-1900 and scarce. This particular example is in excellent condition with no nicks, chips, flakes or loss of mercury.
