Overview of this product
◎This is an electronic compass that supports the alignment of the polar axis of a portable equatorial mount during astronomical observation and photography.
◎It has a built-in 9-axis sensor, and allows you to quickly and easily set the polar axis (direction of the North Star) of the equatorial mount at the set latitude.
◎It is suitable for relatively short exposure starry field and constellation photography. For long exposure and long focal length lens photography, high precision adjustments using a polar axis telescope are required.
◎The NS-10 can be attached to the equatorial mount of a telescope. However, this method of attachment is not suitable for high magnification photography, but it is fine for simple observation and low magnification photography.

- Polar axis setting aid for the digital age
- There are smartphone apps that can detect direction and altitude, but this one is compact and specifically for polar axis setting.


Operability
- The initial settings were a bit tedious at first, but once you get used to it, it's no problem.
- The rest is simple.

Setting accuracy
There is no problem with the altitude (latitude), but the direction is easily affected by the surrounding environment (metal and magnetism).
Accuracy is particularly poor when in contact with an equatorial mount, which is a mass of metal.
Taking this into consideration, I checked the accuracy with an equatorial mount (SkyMemo S) with a polar axis telescope, and the error was within ±0.3°.

When I set the polar axis (but aligned the direction while visually checking the position of the North Star) and took a photo with only the NS-10 mkII + attached plate on a portable equatorial mount (Polarlie (attached image)) without a polar axis telescope,
I found that there was no noticeable deviation for about 5 minutes with a 50mm lens.


Conclusion

- With a portable equatorial mount, you can get enough accuracy for stargazing with an exposure of about 5 minutes with a lens of around 50mm.

- It is useful for aligning the polar axis when you cannot see the North Star or do not know which North Star it is.
