In Wildest Africa blends travelogue, hunting narrative, and scientific field notes documenting East and Central African landscapes, indigenous cultures (such as the Masai region), and big game. The work features over 300 striking photographic studies taken directly from the author's original glass-plate negatives—including pioneering night photography using artificial flashlights.  While recording hunting adventures, Schillings expressed a pioneering, nostalgic concern over the shrinking wilderness and the impact of European colonization on African fauna, advocating for a respect and preservation of wildlife.
