Description
The Nikon F FTn is a legendary 35mm film SLR that represents the peak of Nikon’s early professional system cameras, launched in 1968. Built around the iconic Nikon F body and paired with the FTn Photomic finder, it introduced through-the-lens (TTL) metering, significantly improving exposure accuracy for professional and serious amateur photographers.
Renowned for its exceptional durability and mechanical reliability, the Nikon F was widely used in demanding environments, from photojournalism to scientific and military applications. The FTn finder offers a more advanced and user-friendly metering system compared to earlier versions, making it one of the most practical configurations of the Nikon F series.
With full manual control, interchangeable viewfinders, and access to a vast range of NIKKOR lenses, the Nikon F FTn remains a highly respected classic—valued not only for its historical significance but also for its solid performance and timeless shooting experience.
Compatibility
Meter coupling is through the aperture-ring coupling prong ("rabbit ears"). Pre-Ai Nikkor lenses, and Ai / Ai-S Nikkor lenses that have the prong (standard on Nikon Ai and Ai-S manual-focus lenses), couple for full-aperture metering. Lenses without a prong (most AF Nikkor and Series E lenses) mount and can be used, but do not couple to the meter. G-type lenses have no aperture ring and are not suitable.
