This is a military sword mounting (koshirae) from the former Imperial Japanese Army.
The scabbard itself is undamaged; however, the leather field cover—being an original period piece—shows signs of wear and age-related deterioration.
The locking mechanism (chūzō) functions correctly, and the sword can be inserted and withdrawn without issue; overall, the condition is reasonably good.
There are marks and signs of soiling consistent with its age.
