This is a Japanese Imperial Army sword mounting (*koshirae*).
It features a brown-wrapped hilt (*tsuka*) with *menuki* (ornamental fittings) depicting human figures.
The hilt was custom-made for an officer.
The scabbard (*saya*) is made of wood and covered in leather.
There is some damage to the *kurigata* (the knob on the scabbard through which the cord is passed).
The button on the retaining strap is rusted.
The blade itself is made of wood.
There are signs of wear, soiling, and aging.
