Cuchulain of Muirthemne: The Story of the Men of the Red Branch of Ulster is a classic 1902 collection of Irish mythological tales arranged and translated into English by Lady Gregory, featuring a notable preface by W.B. Yeats. Compiled and written by Isabella Augusta, Lady Gregory, a central figure in the Irish Literary Revival. Centers on the legendary deeds, tragic destiny, and life of the ancient Irish hero Cú Chulainn (Cuchulain) and the elite warriors of the Red Branch of Ulster. Draws from medieval Irish manuscripts and oral traditions, translated into an English dialect inspired by native Gaelic speakers. Recounts stories ranging from Cuchulain's boyhood deeds and training to his courting of Emer and the epic Táin Bó Cúailnge (War for the Bull of Cuailgne). (Amozon)
Isabella Augusta, Lady Gregory was an Anglo-Irish dramatist, folklorist and theatre manager. With William Butler Yeats and Edward Martyn, she co-founded the Irish Literary Theatre and the Abbey Theatre, and wrote numerous short works for both companies.
