CONDITION REPORT

• The Mechanical Movement: Great. The internal musical mechanism functions beautifully, triggering clear, rhythmic musical tones when the stick is rhythmically spun or moved.
• Cosmetic Condition: Good antique condition. The hand-painted wooden face shows a fantastic, authentic aged patina with light surface crazing/lacquer cracking typical of genuine turn-of-the-century varnishes. The felt collar and striped hat retain solid structural shape; there is expected fading to the fabrics and minor moth tracking/fraying along the red felt points, but no major tears. The tiny metal bells show natural tarnish but remain securely sewn to the hat corners. (Please closely inspect all macro photographs to satisfy yourself with the exact condition before purchasing).

Founded in Paris in 1836 by Jacques-Édouard Bochard, Au Nain Bleu ("The Blue Dwarf") is internationally revered as the world's oldest luxury toy store. Located on the prestigious Rue Saint-Honoré, the boutique specialized in high-end, bespoke toys for the children of European monarchs, emperors, and high-society aristocrats

Marottes were highly popular prestige toys during the Victorian and Edwardian eras. When spun, the hidden music box inside would play a short nursery melody, delighting infants. Because toys from Au Nain Bleu were bought exclusively by the wealthy and carefully guarded across generations, surviving musical marottes with working mechanisms and fully readable shop marks are rare. This is an elite acquisition for collectors of French automata, early dolls, or luxury Parisian history.
