Up for auction , selling for a friend , this ORIGINAL First World War period Galilean type optical sight with original leather case .
Please refer to the photographs, which hopefully are self-explanatory.
There is information about these types of sights on the internet . They were used by the British Army snipers to improve accuracy during the early part of the Great War before telescopic sights became readily available .
There are various markings on the two lenses that make up this sight , including a patent number “ PAT 1850/15 “ and what I assume are range markings “ 200 , 400 , 500 , and 600 “.
The leather case has stamped marking on the inside, but these have faded and are only partially legible .
Both lenses and the leather case are in good condition for their age.
Genuine and unusual World War One period sniper sights as used on the British Army Small Magasine Lee Enfield , with leather case .
Sale to U.K. only, with FREE postage. Payment is required within three days of auction end please .
There are no cracks or chips in the lenses, but they may need to be cleaned. The picture showing the sight attached to an SMLE is taken from the internet and is for illustrative purposes only.
