This is an incredibly rare, vintage Ace Models 1.72 scale military plastic model kit replicating the classic WWII British Staff Car 8HP Forlite Saloon, originally introduced by Austin in 1939. Celebrated by specialist military modellers for their highly authentic, short-run toolings of rare utility machinery, Ace has meticulously captured the iconic rounded lines of the 900cc side-valve Austin 8 range. The kit is beautifully engineered for dioramas or small-scale armor layouts, featuring sharp body shell castings, delicate wheel hub texturing, fine front grille ribbing, and multi-option wartime military livery transfers.
This specific example is a superb, untouched survivor. While the outer cardboard box has been opened to inspect the layout, the plastic component sprues have never been handled or detached. They remain completely undisturbed and sealed inside the original factory zip-lock inner polybag.
Condition Report
• The Internal State: The kit is completely unbuilt, unstarted, and pristine. The injection-moulded grey plastic sprue frames and the original waterslide decal sheet remain 100% factory sealed inside their original red-rimmed grip-seal protective polybag, ensuring that absolutely zero micro-components or decals are missing from the set.
• The Literature: The original multi-page illustrated black-and-white instruction manual sheet is included, displaying crisp layout diagrams, a full parts tracking index map, and clean white paper fields completely free from dealer ink stamps, folds, or moisture stains.
• The Box Cosmetics: The original color-printed retail cardboard box is present and retains very good structural shape. The side walls and corners are sharp, and the box top features a striking painted artwork scene of the camouflaged olive-drab Forlite Saloon in a rural landscape. There is expected, light age-related shelf wear, minor storage scuffs along the reverse lip creases, and a faint pencil line near the product code bar, but it holds its shape firmly and displays beautifully. (Please study the comprehensive photography array closely for full cosmetic view tracking).
Operating from Ukraine, Ace Models achieved legendary status among advanced military hobbyists worldwide by mastering the art of the "limited-run" injection model kit. Rather than mass-producing generic tanks, Ace carved out a highly strategic niche by researching and tooling exceptionally rare soft-skin transport vehicles, staff cars, and support artillery that major mainstream manufacturers entirely overlooked.
The British Staff Car 8HP Forlite Saloon (No. 72513) represents an essential chapter of modern transport history. Over 9,000 of these tough little Austin 8s were manufactured or requisitioned for the British Army and Government officials during WWII, serving tirelessly across the home front and overseas theatres. Because Ace kits were manufactured in strictly limited production batches using specialized short-run moulds, these out-of-production sets are highly coveted. Finding an original Ukrainian-cast survivor that is completely unbuilt with its factory-sealed internals intact is a fantastic find for military historians and advanced small-scale diorama builders.
