*NO SHIPPING TO CHINA, DO NOT BID as you will be Unable to Pay** Antique & Original, 1880s 1890s Teen Girl's Dirndl Dress. Fine Blocked Striped Burgundy Silk Moiré Taffeta (soft, not ultra-stiff), the Fabric is So Luxurious and Beautiful, it shimmers and glows with the changing light. Silk Wrapped Cord Corset-Style Lace-Up Front, Lined in Various Colors of Glazed Cotton and Primarily Hand-Stitched. I do not believe this dress was shortened, this is the original length, (below the knee for a Juvenile of that era), which has more freedom of movement than women's garments of the period. Originally the dress buttoned down the back, at some point, in order to extend its life and fit, mother added the metal hooks and eyes and a triangle-shaped inset at the back. With this inset, the bust measures 28-29", Waist 20", Length waist to hem 25 1/4", Length shoulder to hem 38 1/2". The Dress and Fabric are both strong, there are seam pops below the waist seam around hip level (pics). Several spots/stains on skirt (pics), a few pinholes. Hand-Stitched Smocking below the waist piping. There's a hand-stitched hem which measures 2 1/4" the hand-construction on this piece is expert and stellar. Single Right-Handed Pocket, you'll find a few other small seams out here/there & 2 linear areas along the seams at the side waist where the silk has pulled from the cotton liner (pic). Really a Wonderful and Rare Piece for the Antique Costume Clothing Collection...NO RESERVE!
