This is a lot of two postcards. The first is a United States Postal Card featuring the 1-cent Jefferson stamp design (Scott UX27), issued circa 1914. This card is unused and unposted, with the recto displaying the pre-printed indicium of Thomas Jefferson and the directive "THIS SIDE OF CARD IS FOR ADDRESS." The verso contains a handwritten appeal in blue ink, soliciting support for Rev. Barton Hunter's candidacy for the Peoria Board of Education.
The second postcard is a piece of local political ephemera from 1951, originating from Peoria, Illinois. This card advocates for a school referendum, urging citizens to vote "YES" on June 4, 1951. Printed in reddish-maroon ink on off-white cardstock, it features a graphic of a hand cradling silhouettes of a schoolgirl and schoolboy, with text emphasizing that "Education Molds Our Future" and "Better Schools will make a Better Peoria." The card also includes the "Allied Printing Trades Council Peoria, Ill." union bug. The verso of this card is a U.S. Postal Card from the 1911–1914 Jefferson 1-cent issue.
