Rare Expressionist Mid-Century Modern Ceramic Wall Mask (Wandmaske)An incredible find for collectors of avant-garde studio pottery, West German design, and Mid-Century Modern art.

This heavy, handcrafted ceramic wall mask features a highly striking, expressionist face with bold abstract features.

The design heavily draws inspiration from the tribal art movements that became highly popularized in Europe during the 1950s and 1960s

.Attribution & Markings:The reverse of the mask features the hand-incised model number 325 and size 5.

Based on the specific numbering style, the heavy terracotta clay structure, and the avant-garde execution, this piece is highly attributed to the famous Goldscheider West-Germany manufactory from the 1950s/1960s era, or a high-end European art ceramicist from the Karlsruhe artistic movement.

Stunning Glaze & Craftsmanship:The mask is finished with a wonderful combination of thick, glossy glazes. Vibrant fire-orange lips and eyes contrast beautifully with deep cobalt blue accents around the nose and eyebrows. The face itself has a subtle, multi-toned speckled gray-green base glaze. The back reveals the authentic raw, reddish-brown terracotta clay structure and includes an integrated hanging hole as well as its vintage wire mount.

Condition:The wall mask is in beautiful authentic vintage condition. The glaze is remarkably vibrant and glossy. There are some minor, typical manufacturing irregularities in the clay and glaze on the rim and back, which is completely normal for handcrafted studio pottery of this era and adds to its unique, one-of-a-kind character. No structural cracks or restorations.
