Overview
An affordable, pocketable wide-angle prime that keeps a natural 28mm perspective and focuses as close as 0.85 ft, which suits environmental portraits and detail shots as much as street and travel work. Light, compact and easy to carry, it delivers genuine NIKKOR quality at an entry-level price, and it is a joy on a film body for everyday shooting.
This D-type version dates from the mid-1990s, and at about 205 g it is a very light AF Nikkor, which makes it a natural travel companion for film shooters. It focuses with the camera body's motor, so it mounts on any F-mount Nikon but autofocus works only on bodies with a built-in AF motor; on bodies without one, such as the D3000 and D5000 series or Z cameras with the FTZ adapter, it can only be focused manually. D-type lenses also pass distance information to the camera for flash and metering.

Compatibility
Nikon AF screw-drive lens. Autofocus requires a body with built-in AF motor (D300s, D700, D3-series, D90, D80, D70, D7xxx, F6, etc.). On D3xxx/D5xxx without motor, functions as manual focus only.

Appearance
- Clean cosmetics with some light signs of use. There are a few minor scuffs from normal handling, but no dents, dings, or brassing.
Optics
- The optics are in near mint condition. No haze, no fungus, no balsam separation, no scratches. There is negligible dust inside, which will never affect image quality.
- There are a few tiny dust specks inside, which will never affect photos.
Functions
- All functions work perfectly. Helicoid is smooth with proper resistance. Aperture blades are clean, snappy, and oil-free. Tested on a camera body.
- Autofocus operates smoothly and accurately.
- Aperture ring is crisp and snappy with solid click stops.
