Item: US Army WW2 Sherman Tanker Colt 1911 .45 Pistol Enger-Kress M-7 Shoulder Holster

Markings: Bears the classic oval "US" stamping with serifs at front, and is "U.S." marked with serifs again at the upper left back, along with its maker, the famous "ENGER-KRESS".

Condition: This holster is in Very Good Plus Condition. Some flattening to the body. Some light drying and surface cracking along the upper "spine". Some light scratching and spot darkening. Some verdigris to the darkened brass hardware throughout. Boasts a fully functional darkened brass "lift-the-dot" closure leather top strap, sports the original, fully intact darkened brass "glove" snap closure leather bottom strap, and features both the original leather shoulder strap and chest strap (the latter distinguishes the M-7 "tanker" design) with darkened brass hardware. This is among THE finest examples of these holsters we've ever been able to offer for sale.

Historical Background: The Colt 1911 .45 semi-automatic pistol was developed for the US Army by John Moses Browning after the .38 revolver failed to stop charging Moro warriors in the Philippines, and it served as the standard American military sidearm for over 70 years. US Army Sherman tankers of WW2 were issued the specially designed M-7 shoulder holster to keep the 1911 handy and ready for action. We have shown a photo of a US Army Colonel late in WW2 wearing a very similar M-7 "tanker" shoulder holster.
