Martin HD-28V Vintage Series 1999 (no260925) Since its release in 1933, the Martin D-28 has been a benchmark for all manufacturers as the standard model of acoustic guitar. While undergoing numerous minor changes to adapt to changing times and musical trends, it still reigns as a top-of-the-line classic. This particular model is the HD-28V from the Vintage Series, which follows the pre-war specifications of the D-28. It's a highly popular model known for its vintage-flavored specifications, sound, and looks. It features a Martin traditional dreadnought body with a solid Sitka spruce top, solid Indian rosewood sides and back, mahogany neck, ebony fingerboard and bridge, forward-shifted scalloped bracing, a measured 43.4mm nut width, and a 25.4-inch scale. It features vintage-flavored specifications such as an old decal logo, old butterbean open-back gear tuners, slotted diamond inlays, bold herringbone trim, tortoiseshell pickguard, long-slot saddle, and forward-shifted scalloped bracing. The sound is powerful yet gentle, characteristic of Martin, with the elastic sound of Martin's tradition, enhanced by the soundstage and harmonic richness unique to scalloped bracing. The bass is rich and resonant, blended with a clear midrange and sparkling, harmonically rich highs, resulting in a beautifully harmonious sound. When played with a flat pick, it produces a supple yet powerful sound, and with fingerpicking, it delivers a quick attack and a clear, harmonically rich sound, making it an all-around instrument that suits any genre or playing style. The instrument's condition is quite good, with only minor scratches scattered around, and no significantly noticeable damage. The top shows some faint scratches and dents. There is a small, bean-sized dent on the bulge of the 6th string bridge, where the player's arm would rest; this is the most noticeable damage, but it is shallow and not noticeable during normal viewing. The back shows some minor scratches from clothing friction, but these are all shallow scratches that are only visible under light reflection. Considering it is an instrument over 20 years old, there are no particular problems. The original tuning pegs were Gotoh open-back pegs with a Martin engraving, but they have now been replaced with Gotoh locking pegs of the same type. The shape is exactly the same, the only difference being whether the engraving is Martin or Gotoh. There are traces of a pickup having been installed in the past, and the end pin has been replaced with an oversized one. The neck condition is good and perfectly straight. The current string height at the 12th fret is approximately 2.5mm on the 6th string side and 2.0mm on the 1st string side, which is the best setting. The saddle still has ample height remaining, allowing for further fine-tuning of the string height. While there are faint string marks on the lower frets, almost 100% of the fret height is retained. This is a rare and hard-to-find instrument for those who find the current model's 44.5mm wide neck too tight or who prefer a V-shaped neck.
