Item: US Army WW2 D-Day Paratrooper Airborne Thompson SMG 5 Cell Stick Mag Ammo Pouch
Markings: Unmarked, as many of these original pouches were.
Condition: This ammo pouch is in Near Mint Condition. Some light scattered brownish spot soiling at front. Classic 5 cell design. Fully functional darkened brass "lift-the-dot" closures throughout. Fully intact wide belt loop at back.
Historical Background: The Thompson was the standard US Army SMG early in WW2, and it was loved by the troops for its rugged reliability. US Army paratroopers often carried the Thompson as their shoulder arm and the Colt 1911 as their handgun, as both were chambered for .45 ACP, providing stopping power while necessitating only one caliber of ammunition to be carried. Those "devils in baggy pants" often toted their Thompson 20 rd. stick mags in the specially designed 5 cell ammo pouch. We have shown a photo of a US pathfinder on D-Day wearing a similar 5 cell ammo pouch for his "Tommy".
