I'm in the process of assisting a dear friend liquidate a vast majority of his Hi Fi equipment as he has been diagnosed with Dementia and has transitioned into an Aged Care Centre and unfortunately couldn't take the majority of his equipment with him to the centre. In the process of cleaning out his apartment we have not come across any paperwork for the purchase of this item.
My friend tells me he recalls purchasing this SME V Tonearm new ( it was the last one in the country as this was about 6 months after SME Ltd UK announced they will stop selling their tonearms as separate accessories ) via a phone order from Sonic Purity based in Abbotsford, Victoria and road freighted it to Brisbane in early April 2021, the shipping label on the factory shipping carton confirms this information. I have tested this SME V tonearm on 4x LP’s that I played and it works as expected for one of the greatest tonearms that’s had only between 50 to 80hrs of total use.
It comes as supplied as a bare tonearm and MC phono cable and all the original mounting tools and screws in the double OEM box as you would receive if you had bought this when NEW.
Sadly, the price of the SME tonearms have risen over the last 4yrs ever since SME LTD U.K. announced they would no longer be selling the SME Tonearms of the models in the 308, IV & V as separate accessories and only combined with the sale of their turntables only.
I believe this is the lowest priced SME V ( non detachable headshell version ) that is near new/mint with all included accessories & box for sale at the time of listing this item. The cartridge that is photograghed in one of the advert photos was only fitted during testing of this tonearm and is NOT part of or included in this sale, this sale is for the original tonearm only and the OEM supplied tools.
