Extremely Rare Authentic Original French Napoleon 1810 18K Rose Gold Customs Inspection Nib Tester Sampler 🛃💥💣 Hallmarked with the French left turned rooster head which was for small gold objects which dates from 1809 to 1819 (best illustrated in the 16th and 17th images). Weighs approximately 1 gram. Approximately 6.45 cm (2 8.8/16 inches) in length, so spectacular goldsmithing considering how thin yet sturdy enough for manual application ! The central tube is approximately 3.3 mm (2.1/16 of an inch) in diameter. That era was truly a turbulent period so in order to manage or contain the violence the bureaucracy became expert inspectors to manage and surveil all goods travelling back and forth such as sacks grains, flower and sugar, and make sure it was not something like gunpowder being smuggled to enemy lines... When one first sees the object one is of the notion that it is some sort of dip pen ! Haha but what a strange shape for one, so after careful thought one might figure out its for piercing fabric sacks without seriously damaging the fabric to inspect its content which would flow through to the other end on the side of the rooster hallmark ! Would make a cool addition to any historical security collection, and a very cool gift for someone involved in customs ! One must understand that Napoleon brought about the bureaucratic systems, or the surveillance state if you wish, so a very historic little artefact, no ? The Louvre itself might not have this gold piece !
