An extraordinary pair of early German aviation history postcards (Cards #1 and #2 from a humorous series) published for the landmark 1909 International Aviation Exposition (ILA) held in Frankfurt am Main. Features vivid, multi-color comic illustrations by renowned artist E. Kretschmann, depicting satirical scenarios involving hot air ballooning and early aviation culture. Card Details Card #1 (Left - Sportkameradschaft): Depicts balloonists dumping ballast water from their basket onto an unsuspecting pedestrian on a dirt road while an early motorcar speeds past in the background. Signed in the artwork E. Kretschmann 09. Margin imprint: Central-Anzeiger für die Motorfahrzeug- und Fahrrad-Industrie, Luftschiffahrt, Frankfurt a. Main. Postmarked in Frankfurt on August 9, 1909. Card #2 (Right - Halt !!!): Depicts balloon aeronauts leaning out of their gondola to hoist a young woman up into the air away from a cheering crowd on the exhibition grounds below. Signed in the artwork E. Kretschmann 09 with matching Frankfurt publisher margin imprint.
