Rail service began in 1852 between Mobile and Citronelle, Alabama. The railroad made it to Columbus, KY on April 22, 1861. It was converted to military use and quickly became a target for both sides during the war.
Original Gibson County, Tennessee Tax Warrant payable to the Mobile & Ohio Railroad Co., $20, dated March 20, 1865, No. 610. Attractive mid‑19th century county warrant printed by W.R. Eldridge & Co., Memphis, with strong locomotive vignette, manuscript entries, and signatures of Wm. McCall (Chairman) and E.H. Edmonson (Clerk, County Court). Paper shows light age toning and typical folds consistent with Fine condition; margins intact and no major repairs visible. Historically significant as a Civil War‑era municipal payment instrument used to settle railroad taxes during Reconstruction.
