Beautifully printed and well-researched limited edition book that tells the story of the one-of-one late-1930s Alfa Romeo 12C prototype and its meticulous restoration. Deluxe special edition: produced in a limited edition of 250 individually numbered copies. Number 5/250. Bound with a red canvas cover and enclosed in a slipcase on which the official Alfa Romeo emblem (specially made by O.M.E.A) is applied — identical to the one on the car. In the book, the historical account alternates with the chronicle of the restoration, expertly researched and written and including over 410 photos.
Intended to replace the Alfa 8C, World War II led to the 12C project's cancellation in 1941 with just one prototype built. After the war, the 12C was broken up, and so was the development team — Gioacchino Colombo, who helped develop the 3.0-litre version of the S10 V12 experimental engine that powers the car went to design his famous V12 for Ferrari. Ferdinand Porsche who engineered the modifications for the 8C 2900-derived chassis went off to found his own company.
It would take decades for the car to be brought back together, restored by Egon Zweimüller and Dino Cognolato. The car was first shown at the Salon Privé London in 2022. Its current owner, Stefano Martinoli, set up his own publishing company to tell the story of the car and its restoration.
