I am selling a lovely antique Staffordshire pearlware jug decorated with chinoisery designs depicting ladies gathering fruit.

This is a transfer ware patterned jug most likely used in the 1820s to pour cider.

This little beauty has an inky blue background and is decorated with vibrant enamel colours including bright orange, emerald green, cream, lilac and yellow.

The decoration includes ladies gathering fruit, feathered birds in flight, exotic red fruits, yellow daffodil type flowers, urns of pretty flowers and pompom edged parasols, all of which are absolutely delightful.

This wonderful jug is now over 200 years old and is stamped to the base “B&C, SP Opaque China.”  This mark is not specific to a particular pottery although the SP is thought to refer to Staffordshire Potteries.  In the early 19th century potteries frequently used the same transferware designs and B&C appears to have been used by several potteries as a type of universal backstamp.

This smaller sized jug measures 10 cm from its base to the top of its handle (the highest part of the jug).  The diameter of the base is 7 cm and its total width including the handle and the spout is 13 cm.

The condition is lovely with no discolour or crazing, cracks or chips.  There is a tiny nobble to the spout (invisible to the eye but you can feel it to the touch) and there is a small loss to the inner rim of the base (not visible when displayed).

This super jug sits solidly on a surface and will look gorgeous when displayed with other similar pieces on a kitchen dresser.

All in all an absolutely beautiful little jug and a super addition to a collection of similar pieces not to mention a gorgeous addition to a decorative scheme.
