Up for auction is a 5" x 25" theater-style mylar for The Wizard of Oz.

Released in 1939 and directed by Victor Fleming, The Wizard of Oz stars Judy Garland as Dorothy Gale, a young Kansas girl swept away by a tornado to the magical land of Oz. Accompanied by the Scarecrow, Tin Man, Cowardly Lion, and her dog Toto, Dorothy follows the Yellow Brick Road toward the Emerald City in hopes that the mysterious Wizard can help her return home.

This colorful panoramic design features Dorothy, the Scarecrow, Tin Man, Cowardly Lion, and Toto traveling through a field of poppies. The multicolored Wizard of Oz title fills the center, while the Yellow Brick Road, a rainbow, and the Emerald City complete the scene on the right. The bright colors and classic storybook artwork look especially good when illuminated.

Mylars in this long, narrow format were used in lighted signs outside movie theater auditoriums to identify the film playing inside. They make an interesting piece of theater memorabilia and are easy to display in a home theater, movie room, or classic film collection.

The first photo shows the actual The Wizard of Oz mylar illuminated in a lightbox. The second shows the same mylar normally, without backlighting. The final photo shows a different mylar displayed at an actual movie theater and is included only as an example of how these were originally used. The mylar in that final reference photo is not included.
