HIGONOKAMI Full Steel Traditional Japanese Chrome Knife (Large)
Made in Japan
HIGONOKAMI is a traditional Japanese folding knife with the history of over 130 years in production since 1894.
It is sometimes said to be a "Japanese Opinel" with its same long history, simple construction, durability, and unchanging original shape.
This has been a standard folding knife every Japanese familiar with.
There have been about 40 factories manufacturing HIGONOKAMI in peak period (1950's), but only one small factory remaining now on the verge of extinction due to the appearance of pencil sharpner, snap-off blades, etc.
Most of their knives are made with the traditional Japanese Katana forging procedure (Warikomi or Sanmai), which is to sandwitch harder steel with softer steel to realize both hardness and viscosity.
This full steel version is a entry range model in their lineups, and blade is not forged by Warikomi as the name suggests.
The advantage of full steel is that it is harder than Warikomi so that the blade cannot be warped when sharpening.
In addition, the angle of shapening on each side of blade can be changed arbitrarily like 6:4 or 7:3.
This chrome plated handle version is rather rare model comparing to regular black parkerized handle.
