​An exceptionally rare and highly collectible early Royal Doulton character figurine depicting the Victorian actor William Sydney Penley in his iconic theatrical drag role as Lord Fancourt Babberley ("Charley's Aunt") from Brandon Thomas's famous 1892 farce.

​Designed by the renowned sculptor Albert Toft around 1913/1914, this early HN series piece features Penley dressed in a Victorian widow’s gown, bonnet, and lace collar, holding a handkerchief on an octagonal titled base.

• ​Underbase Marking: Early black printed "ROYAL DOULTON ENGLAND" mark to the interior cavity.
