This listing is for a handwritten book of medical / pharmeceutical recipes for oral and topical medications.
No date but I would guess it is from the middle to late 1800s.
Inside is a stamp that reads "John Stelling, Stationer, 303 E. 26th St. N.Y." I couldn't find any info on this but the address puts it right at the location of Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan. Many of the recipes have a doctor and hospital attribution, many say Bell Hosp which is probably Bellevue. Other attributions are Char Hosp. and Berean or Bureau ODP.
There is a decorative owner name written inside, looks like George Dowding, but I couldn't find anything on him.
89 pages of formulations, indexed by hand in back. Most pages have 3 formulations each, some have 2.
There are medications for Respiratory Organs, Tonic Mixtures, Digestive Organs, Nervous System, Rheumatism and Gout, Venereal and Urinary, Emulsions, Elixirs and Wines, Tinctures, External and Topical Applications, Pills, Powders and Misc. Formulas.
Most are in the same handwriting, a few in back are by a different writer.

Original binding, 10.5 x 8 inches. Leather spine and corners, brown cloth covers. Spine is damaged, some loss. Previous owner hinge repair with tape. See photos.
