The violin was made in 1908 by an prominent Italian luthier who international violin experts consider to be one of the three greatest late 19th century to first-half of the 20th century Italian violin makers.
Orange with gold ground, oil varnish. This violin will give you
a strong, high-quality tone; it would be a good solution for a player who wants marquee name Italian maker, certificate papers, and tone together. Always a question of what a person who looks at the violin experiences when he's played the violin—i.e., how it sounds as well as how it feels. Well, this violin not only sounds good it feels good too!
The name of the maker is seen on the label (see photo). No payment will be made until I send you a copy of the Reuning & Son Certificate of Authenticity, but only after you've expressed a serious interest to try the violin.
If you are interested in knowing the measurements or in having a copy of the condition report, then contact me. I will send the data to you.
As concerns sound samples, we decided early on not to do these as they are so easy to fake with a bit of equalizer play. Also, the quality of the room, the recording system, and the player (!) make such a difference to what a potential buyer might hear. We prefer to let people try the violin for themselves. Nothing replaces a live experience. And it's free! The violin can be made available in Toronto, Vermont, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles. (Please note that any dealer will take a commission once a violin is consigned to them, usually between 10% to 20% add on.)
With my luthier, James Banicki Violins (Essex Junction, Vermont) you can play the violin without charge. He can adjust the sound post while you trial the violin in his shop. You can do so for however long you want, a day, two days, three days. No payment required. You,the violin and the luthier. The best option for your decision making process!
If you transact directly through James Banicki or through me, then the price will be significantly reduced.
Adjusted sale price: 45k USD as is, or 45k USD plus certificate cost. Your choice.
The adjusted price is only for a direct sale—that is, no third party intermediary. This is a low wholesale price below even the 2024 price achieved at Tarisio auction. (See photo of Tarisio price history for this maker since 2020).
Once certified, you will have a 10-trial (after payment), which will secure the return of the violin if you are unhappy with what you've chosen. So, refundable if you decide not to keep the violin. (No tax will be charged!) Contact me for details!
His violins come up at auction every two years or so, and his violins are much in demand! Price is commensurate with condition. Auction prices have hovered around the 75k mark although it does vary. Tarisio auction prices since 2020 have been provided (see photos).
The high Tarisio auction price for this maker's violin was 113k USD in 2017.
Lastly, I can have it made available for purchase through Tarisio or a marquee name violin store, either in Chicago, Boston, and LA.
(If bought through any third party commission would apply.)
I am willing to ship the instrument to London (UK) and sell it through Florian Leonhard Fine Violins.
Let me know if you have an interest to know more about this violin.
