Condition Report
Cosmetic Status: This camera is in nice vintage cosmetic shape for its age. The main textured pebble-grain leatherette panels across the rear film door and side profiles are cleanly intact, flat, and show an excellent, uniform presentation with only normal handling wear. Please note: The front metal faceplate directly surrounding the twin lenses shows expected age-related paint flaking and white oxidized metal spotting/grime from decades of careful storage. The pop-up waist-level viewfinder snaps open cleanly, and the internal grid screen and mirror remain intact. The front lens glass shows typical faint storage dust but appears visually clean upon general inspection. There are general marks, scrapes etc but it does sill look great.
Mechanical Status: Mechanically responsive with a good feel. The fold-out silver crank handle on the right side winds smoothly forward and sweeps backward correctly to advance internal mechanics and tension the system. The lower front silver shutter plunger button depresses cleanly, triggering a sharp, quiet leaf-shutter operation. The side focusing dial adjusts the front lens standard panel smoothly.
Testing Profile: The core physical linkages, winding cranks, and shutter mechanisms are mechanically operational, but this camera is sold strictly as untested. It has not been verified with active live 120 film stock or a battery for exposure light meter readout accuracy.
Introduced in 1968, the Yashica-Mat 124 is widely considered by film historians to be one of the absolute pinnacles of the Japanese Twin-Lens Reflex movement. It was explicitly engineered to compete head-to-head with the legendary, high-end German Rolleiflex systems, combining robust mechanical reliability with exceptionally sharp, premium Yashinon 80mm four-element lenses.
Unlike standard 35mm cameras, this medium format machine captures massive 6x6cm square negatives onto 120 film reels, delivering incredible image clarity, depth, and detail that remain heavily prized today by professional portrait photographers, fine art students, and analog purists. While it shows some cosmetic faceplate wear, the camera remains a beautiful mechanical survivor and a true flagship collector's piece.
