1940 House of Representatives RESTAURANT MENU signed Congressman W.S. Jacobsen IOWA

Menu from the U.S. Capitol House of Representatives restaurant signed on cover “W S Jacobsen M.C. [Member of Congress] 8/30/40" in pencil.

William Sebastian Jacobsen (January 15, 1887 – April 10, 1955) was a Democratic U.S. Representative from Iowa's 2nd congressional district who served three terms from 1937 to 1943. He was the son of his predecessor, Bernhard M. Jacobsen, who held the same congressional seat for three previous terms.

The menu has a cover woodcut print of the U.S. Capitol Building.  It opens to a two-page listing of the offerings and is dated at bottom left as “Friday, August 30, 1940" corresponding to the signature date.  The prices are very modest, with the iconic “Old Fashioned Bean” soup listed at 15¢ and some “plates” with beverage and dessert at 75¢ or less. Rear cover has an involuted 48-star American flag.

Menu is folded vertically at middle.  It is 6-3/16 X 9-15/16.  Some minor toning on rear cover, otherwise, overall near excellent condition.

Postage combined for items purchased at the same time IF you wait for a combined invoice before making payment.
