Here we have a Genuine Vintage Oil Painting on Board, made in England in the late 20th Century.
We have a beautiful landscape painting by the noted British artist John Webster, it depicts the historic, Grade II listed Little East Standen house and farm in Arreton on the Isle of Wight. Rendered in an expressive, impressionistic plein air style, the oil composition beautifully captures the traditional stone architecture of the farm buildings nestled behind a sunlit green meadow where sheep quietly graze. The painting is clearly signed by the artist in the lower left corner, and the reverse of the board features the handwritten location inscription along with the date of composition.
The painter, Vice-Admiral Sir John Morrison Webster (1932–2020), enjoyed a distinguished forty-year career in the Royal Navy before dedicating his retirement to his lifelong passion for painting. Despite having no formal art school training, he developed exceptional technique and became a fully elected member of the prestigious Royal Society of Marine Artists (RSMA), regularly exhibiting his landscapes and coastal scenes at London's Tryon Gallery and the Mall Galleries. His works are highly regarded for their honest, fresh handling of light and rural scenery, drawing heavy inspiration from the traditional twentieth-century Modern British schools of painting.
This specific piece comes elegantly housed in a high-quality, distressed wood frame with soft grey and blue undertones that perfectly complements the rustic, rural aesthetic of the artwork.
Signed in the lower right corner, possibly JOHN WEBSTER, titled at the back LITTLE EAST STANDEN and dated 1998.
The artwork is Ready to hang. It will do a stunning feature on the wall.
