Weltaflex German late 1950s Twin-Lens Reflex – IT WORKS!

This a BEAUTIFUL Twin Lens Reflex (TLR) camera made in the late 1950s in East Germany. It works, and it has seen very little use!

I really like this camera, and I would just as soon keep it. However, the wife thinks I have way too many old cameras, so I have to at least make it look like I am trying to sell some of them.

Considering its age, I am pretty amazed that it is in such good cosmetic and operational condition. It has obviously seen very little use.

The covering is stamped with "Made in Germany", and "U.S.S.R Occupied" is stamped on with white paint.

I have tested all of the camera's factions, and it works as it should. Shutter speeds 1/25^th and faster sound good, but the slower speeds are a little slow. It has double-exposure prevention (shutter can't be released until the film is advanced). The focus and aperture adjust smoothly.

The Meritar taking lens is in excellent condition (see photos), and I see no sign of lens defects such as fungus or cleaning marks. The condition of the lenses is amazing for a camera that is almost almost 70 years old. This is a three-element "triplet" lens. I have gotten some of my best images with triplet lenses. 

This camera has a feature that none of my other TLRs has: a parallax-corrector. When composing images with the "sports finder", the hole you look through has two settings: infinity and 2 meters (see photos).    

This camera's only flaw is some surface deterioration on the mirror. The ground glass is bit a dusty, but  t I can still compose and focus easily.

I have not done any repairs, adjustments or even any cleaning on this camera, because it came to me in such fine condition. I see no dents on it.

Most of the original light-baffling material is still there in the door. The door fits so well with the body that I think the camera would be sufficiently light-tight as it is.

I am very sad to say that I have not yet had the opportunity to use this camera with film. I ran out of film, chemicals and spare time. Also, the wife says I have way too many old cameras.

Although this cameras is working now, vintage cameras can stop working at any time and will need service.
