A gorgeous, simple design for a Regency ball dress, from Ackermann's Repository, for the April 1811 edition. This is plate number 21, an early one in the series, as the magazine only began publication in 1809. Here is the description:
.....of amber-coloured crape, worn over a white satin slip, embroidered entirely round and up the front with a border of blended lilies and Persian roses in chenille; short sleeve; and long gloves of French kid. Neck-chain and drop of Indian gold; ear-rings to correspond. Hair in waved curls in front. White satin sandal slippers, tied with green ribbon round the ancle (sic). Fan of carved ivory.
Please note that I have been an extensive collector of old and unusual books, prints and other ephemera over many years. All the items I sell come from my own, private collection. I wish to pass on my items to other collectors who will appreciate them.
Condition: Good condition, with a little light discolouration around the edges and a slight binding bend down the lefthand side. Publishing details are missing. Please look carefully at the photos which form an important part of the description. Please note that the first 'framed' image is for display purposes only.
Measurements: approx 8.5" x 5.5."
Please look carefully at the photos, which form a part of the description and ask any questions before bidding, as refunds cannot be given, (unless, of course, an item proves to be faulty or misdescribed). Many thanks for your interest.
