Shinohara Ushio & The Neo-Dada Organizers

Shinohara is famous for his chaotic, post-WWII scrap metal and cardboard assemblages.

The Look: He frequently built mock war machines, tanks, and bomb-like "monuments" sitting on pedestals out of scrap metal, garbage, and found military debris.

The Paint Technique: He was notorious for applying vibrant, chaotic multicolored paint (often bright neon acrylics, reds, and yellows) over his structures, then wildly thrashing, scratching, or rubbing the surfaces down. This process exposed the raw metallic shine of the casings and old layers of paint underneath, creating a violently weathered, post-atomic look.
