Water-Soluble Patina is a partially water-soluble decorative patina designed to create realistic effects of aging, grime, rust, moisture, soot, wear and tonal variation on miniatures, models, scenery, props and other non-porous surfaces. The formula gives an ultra-matte, natural finish, and the pigments settle organically into crevices, textures and reliefs for results that read far more believably than conventional paint.

It's a non-toxic acrylic product with no harsh fumes — much more comfortable for long indoor sessions, whether you're working on fantasy miniatures, military vehicles, scale models or tabletop scenery. Because it's partially water-soluble, you can adjust or remove some of the product to fine-tune the effect exactly how you want it.

Shake well before each use — some components can separate and settle at the bottom during storage. If it's been standing a long time, drop in a couple of mixing balls to remix it thoroughly.

💡 How To Get The Best From It

Shake first, every time. The pigments settle in the bottle — shake well (or use mixing balls) so the effect is consistent.

Wipe back for realism. While still workable, lift product from raised areas with a damp cloth or cotton bud so it stays in the recesses — that's what sells the worn look.

Layer the colours. Combine tones — e.g. Yellow Oxide under Verdigris, or Filthy Dirt over Moss — for deep, multi-stage weathering.

Seal when you're done. The patina has no binder and stays reactivatable, so lock it in with a matte varnish. Add any metallic detail (bolts, edges) after sealing so you don't disturb it.
