The pipe is a smooth-finished straight shape, no nomenclature anywhere on it - no maker, no shape number, no country mark. The stem is vulcanite, cut hexagonal, in a saddle profile, ending in a fishtail slot. A metal band sits at the shank. There is no filter system; the bore runs open from chamber to bit.

A saddle stem is built with a raised shoulder just behind the bit, so the mouthpiece steps down in thickness before it reaches the lip - the opposite of a tapered stem, which narrows in a single smooth line from shank to button. The saddle shoulder gives the teeth something to rest against, and on this pipe that shoulder is cut with six flat facets rather than left round. Faceting a stem this way is slower work than turning a round taper on a lathe: each flat has to be filed true and polished separately, and the facets have to stay even in width all the way down or the stem reads as lopsided in the hand. The fishtail slot at the button - a shallow notch that widens the airway just before the bit - is a separate choice from the hexagonal shoulder; it affects how the smoke fans across the tongue on the draw, while the facets affect only grip and looks. A metal band at the shank is most often fitted to reinforce a joint or to dress a plain shank - here it is simply present, with no hallmark or engraving reported on it.

With no shape number stamped and no catalogue name given, the geometry has to speak for itself. Bowl height runs 36mm against a bowl width of 33mm, so the bowl reads slightly taller than it is wide rather than squat. The chamber is 18mm across and 29mm deep - a depth-to-width ratio of better than 1.5 to 1, which puts more tobacco below the rim than a shallow bowl of the same diameter would hold, and rewards a slower cadence of relights over a longer smoke rather than a quick bowl. No filter bore means nothing narrows the draw between chamber and bit; the airway is whatever the drilling gives it, for better or worse, with no cartridge to adjust the resistance.
