Antique G. Potter & Co Aldershot military bugle
Appears to be brass
With original mouthpiece which is a silver colour
Lion and unicorn crest but no other markings I can see.
Please note I am unsure of its origins as it belonged to my great grandfather who served in both wars and also collected military antiques

An unusual antique G. Potter & Co., Aldershot military bugle, featuring the distinctive lion and unicorn maker’s crest and original removable mouthpiece.

The instrument is marked “G. Potter & Co. Aldershot” beneath the maker’s crest. George Potter & Co. were established musical instrument makers in Aldershot and were associated with the manufacture and supply of military musical instruments.

The bugle has an aged/patinated appearance and shows clear signs of its age and previous use, including battle dings, dents, knocks, surface marks, discolouration and areas of wear/oxidation. Please study all photographs carefully as these form an important part of the description. I can provide more photos if required.

The original-style white-metal or silver-coloured mouthpiece is present and removable. I have not attempted to clean, polish, restore or alter the instrument, so it retains its original aged appearance.

Measurements

* Approx. 42 cm tall including mouthpiece
* Bell opening approximately 9 cm internally / 12 cm including the outer rim

I have not tested the instrument for playability, so it is being sold as an antique/collectable military musical instrument, rather than as a fully playable instrument.

There are no other obvious regimental inscriptions or markings that I have been able to find apart from the G. Potter & Co. maker’s mark and crest.

A fascinating piece for a collector of British military history, antique musical instruments, brass instruments or G. Potter & Co. memorabilia.

Condition

Please note this is an antique item and is not in pristine condition. It has numerous dents, scratches, marks, areas of tarnishing/patina and evidence of previous repairs or wear. The tubing is visibly dented in places. Please see photographs for the exact condition.

No attempt has been made to polish or restore the instrument, as I felt it was preferable to preserve its aged appearance.

Please examine all photographs carefully before purchasing. Sold as photographed.

A genuinely unusual antique military instrument with a particularly attractive Potter lion-and-unicorn maker’s crest.
