Beautiful pair of mid-century modern bookends by Gordon & Jane Martz for Marshall Studios (Veedersburg, Indiana).

Found at an estate in Houston, TX.

Solid walnut rectangular forms with a vertical strip of hand-glazed ceramic tiles down the center. The tiles feature abstract brushwork in rich greens, blues, grays, and subtle metallic tones — classic Martz style. Each bookend sits on a metal base plate with the original black felt bottom (felt shows expected age wear and cracking). One base retains the original Marshall Studios production sticker: WBER5-132.

These are authentic 1960s–1970s examples of the highly collectible Martz / Marshall Studios designs that have become favorites among mid-century modern collectors.

Condition:

• Wood is solid with nice grain and finish; light age-appropriate wear

• Ceramic tiles are intact with no chips or cracks

• Black felt bottoms are worn and cracked (very common on these). Can easily be replaced. I would, but I presently don't have the time due to other projects.

• Overall good vintage condition and I have given them Feed-N-Wax!
